Houndstooth Hound Dress – Using a photograph of my dog, Dia, and a black and white grid, a motif was designed and put into repeat with DesignaKnit software. Experimenting with humor and two-color patterning, this fabric was created while simultaneously making a dress. A maximum width of patterned fabric was then knitted to the dress length on a hand-manipulated knitting machine with Merino wool and cashmere/silk yarns. The fabric was wrapped around the front of a dress form and the uncovered space was measured. The back was then engineered to the measurements of the opening and knitted in hand-manipulated stripes. Edges of fabric pieces were crocheted and then attached to each other with crocheted seams. Completed in 2009.
