Arabic Calligraphy Cushions

Arabic Calligraphy Cushions – These cushions or decorative pillows are part of a series of knitted Arabic calligraphy patterns inspired by living and teaching in Qatar.  Using numerous iterations these pieces were digitally designed, machine knitted in mixed fiber yarns, set in silk shantung fabric and sewn by machine. They were shown in “Dressing Up, Going Out, Eating In” exhibition in Doha, Qatar.

Rashid, Aida and Mayassa cushions

Mayassa, Rashid and Aida pillows were commissioned by father Rashid to honor his wife Aida at the birth of their first child, daughter Mayassa.  The knitted patterns spell their three names in their first language of Arabic.   They were made of silk/cashmere yarns, set in silk shantung fabric and sewn by machine. 18×18″ c. 2014
